10 Digit Long Code (10DLC)

What is 10DLC?

10DLC is the industry standard for Application-to-Person (A2P) text messaging using traditional 10-digit local phone numbers. It is essentially a "verified" status for business SMS, sanctioned by mobile carriers to provide higher throughput and reliability than traditional long codes.

Why It Matters

North American carriers have fully phased-out "unsanctioned" long codes. Businesses that fail to register their Brands and Campaigns for 10DLC face significant risks, including:

  • Service Disruptions: Carriers will eventually stop supporting SMS traffic from unregistered numbers.
  • Blocked Messages: Unregistered traffic is much more likely to be filtered or blocked.
  • Fines: Carriers may impose penalties on non-compliant messaging.

Benefits of Registration

Once your business is 10DLC compliant, you will gain several advantages:

  • Local Identity: The ability to text customers using a recognized local area code.
  • Improved Deliverability: Higher assurance that messages will reach the recipient without being flagged as spam.
  • SMS Hosting: Businesses can use the same phone number for both calling and texting.
  • Spam Protection: As a regulated channel, it helps protect the ecosystem from spam, improving customer trust.
